Natalie says on page 47, "It seemed like the only choices offered were to be what other people were, or to be what other people wanted you to be. Either to conform, or to obey."
How does Natalie challenge Owen to seek another choice? What do you think Owen will do?
Natalie is telling Owen to make a choice. Does he want to go to college where his parents are saying to go, or just ask can he do what he wants to do with his life. All she is saying is to compete, and just try to ask. The only thing his parents can do is say no.
ReplyDeleteGreat comment! You're right - it doesn't hurt to ask because the worst that will happen is his parents will say no.
DeleteThis statement tells the reader that you don't have to conform with your parents. Natalie challeges Owen by telling him to go to a different college. Also he has the right to go to a different college instead of listening to his parents.
ReplyDeleteYes, it tells us (the reader) and Owen that he doesn't have to conform. He can follow his dreams. :) We all can!
DeleteI agree. I think that Owen should just tell his parents instead of going where they want him to. :)
DeleteOwen wants to conform and obey. But Natalie wants hem to disobey his parents and do what he wants to do. But Owen wants to obey his parents.
ReplyDeleteOwen likes to follow the "safe" route. It seems like he's always worried about upsetting people! You're right - Natalie wants him to consider following his OWN desires instead!
DeleteOne other thought, is he "disobeying" his parents? Is he intentionally trying to hurt them? Or is he just pursuing his OWN goals instead of just doing what they think is best?
DeleteOwen wants to obey his parents and do what they say. But Natalie says go for what you want not what they want. So shes saying go against what his parents what. But later on in the story Owen will have to make a choice some were.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely, he's going to have to make a choice. Life is all about choices :)
DeleteOwen wants to do the things his parents want him to do but then again he also wants to do what he wants to do. Natalie tells him to do what he wants to do and not what his parents want him to do because doing what his parents want him to do is just going to make his tired of what his parents want. Making your own-self happy is better than making your parents happy.
ReplyDeleteI agree. It's not like he's doing anything reckless or dangerous. He just wants to follow his dreams and challenge himself at MIT.
DeleteI agree with you 100% !!!
DeleteI agree with the last part. :)
DeleteI think Natalie Is being a good friend because she is pushing Owen to try and get his courage up to tell his dad and mom how he really feels. Natalie Is challenging Owen by trying to talk some since into him by telling him that life isn't always gonna be perfect , and that there will be some challenges In his life so just go for it and try to make the best out of it ! (:
ReplyDeleteI think so too - Natalie is a good friend. Sometimes we need someone to push us to dream big :)
DeleteAbsolutely .
DeleteI agree with you Devin. :)
DeleteOwen wants to go to a different college that his parents want him to, but he doesn't want to disobey his parents. Natalie tried talking to him, and tell him to just go where he wants, but he doesn't want to do that either. Owen should have the right to tell his parents where he wants to go to college, instead of listening to them.
ReplyDeleteOwen is definitely confused about what the right thing to do is! I agree with you - he should tell his parents where he wants to go instead of staying silent about what he really wants!
DeleteNatalie is trying to tell him that you don't always have to please others. She is trying to tell him life is going to be hard but why make it harder on yourself by going to a school you don't like for four or plus years? He need to do what he wants it might not be what his mom or dad wants but its his life not theirs. He needs to grow a back bone and say what he wants. I think that if he tells his mom and dad they will understand they might now be happy but at least he gets his opinion on his own life out there. I also think that if he goes to they school his mom or dad wants he will regret it.
ReplyDeleteExcellent comment! I agree that he'll probably regret it if he just goes to the school they want without speaking up about his own goals.
DeleteALSO, you did a great job today with fixing the errors in spacing and punctuation. Keep up the good work ;)
DeleteAwesome post Chasidy!! Way to go!
DeleteThanks you guys ! (:
DeleteI think Natalie is trying to tell him that you don't always have to make people happy. She telling him that he don't have to go to the colleges that his parents are telling him. I think his mom and dad is going to make him pick one or the other. Natalie is trying to tell him to go to the college he want's to go. It's Owen decision to go not his parents he not trying to be rude or dis obey parents.
ReplyDeletein the story natalie is trying to get Owen to make his own decisions. Also I think Owen is going to listen to his parents about going school. Also I think Owen is going to move so he can have some time alone without all of the stress.

DeleteNatalie is encouraging Owen to drive his car. Owen needs to start making good decisions. If he starts making good decisions he just might get further in life. My sister did not want to drive but once she started driving she had a bf and she actually got some where in life.!
ReplyDeleteI like this post cool u the woman
DeleteNatatile trying to tell Owen that he should make his own decisions . I think Owen is going to listening to Natatile about the talk that they had . I agree with Natatile because she right about it .
ReplyDeleteNatalie is trying to tell him that he does not have to make other people happy. So she is kinda a supporter for him. I think he should do and get what he wants and not care what his parents or anybody else says.
ReplyDeleteOwen should start making his own decisions. Also they might have a talk about the conversation they had on the bus. They are alike also they like each other alot.
ReplyDeleteNatile is trying to bring something to Owen attention that he doesnt have to do what others want him to do. He should be able to go to whatever college that his feel like. In his parents should be there no matter what college he wants to go to. If he decides to go to State Unervisity he wont forgive his self.
