Predicting the ending...
We have learned that Owen has been accepted to MIT and Natalie has had her songs performed. These are big accomplishments for both of our main characters.
Soooo....how do you think the story is going to end??? Write your ending in your post. Be specific and include all the important characters points of view.

Making Connections
Owen refers to the trip to Jade Beach as the “high point” of
his life. Why does he feel this way?
Now
make a Text-to-Self or Text-to-Text connection and share it here.

On pages 55-56 Owen compares people to machines. Then he compares Natalie's life experiences to a "music machine".
Think about an example in our society where people act like machines.
Do you think this is a positive aspect or negative aspect of our culture?

Natalie says on page 47, "It seemed like the only choices offered were to be what other people were, or to be what other people wanted you to be. Either to conform, or to obey."
How does Natalie challenge Owen to seek another choice? What do you think Owen will do?

We have learned that Owen is a quiet kid who doesn't really socialize much but he has a conversation with Natalie that is different for him.
Think about having conversations. Name one SOCIAL SKILL (ex: eye contact - okay now you can't use this one) that makes discussions more lively, fun or interesting. Explain why you think this is so important.
EX: Eye contact is such an important social skill because you need to be able to look someone in the eye when they are speaking. It shows respect but it also shows you are paying attention and have an interests in what they are saying. I appreciate it when someone looks me in the eye when I speak so I will do the same for them.

Today we read the first ten pages of Very Far Away from Anywhere Else.
Describe the main character. Can you relate to what he was talking about in the first chapter? What question would you ask the main character if you could talk to him?
